Realities Podcast: are kids properly prepped for the future?

I’ve recently had the honour to be a co-host on my friend Mark Fonseca Rendeiro’s Realities podcast.

Mark’s style is one of letting the unplanned happen. Instead of having a regimented strict and choreographed structure he opts to have the conversation flow where it naturally goes. So instead of it being staged the talks are gently guided. He interviews acquaintances and friends at his kitchen table, discussing the guest’s work and philosophies to life.

This one, the first one I attended, featured Gabe Mac, a friend of Mark’s from the early online community and podcast scene. He comes from a background of making media and has been teaching game design for over a decade. Through this work, he’s come to realise that the educational system is falling short when it comes to teaching kids about relevant technologies. The schooling kids are getting is not looking ahead to what is needed to prepare them for the future. So Gabe is convinced we need to set out children free and change the tools we use in getting this generation ready for the next generation of marvels.

It was a lovely discussion. So, not wanting you to summarize something you can experience yourself, I’m suggesting you listen to it instead!
